Solid show
An enjoyable show in a surprisingly large venue for the band (Bill Graham Civic), but better late than never, I suppose. They managed to get a fair amount of people to the show, with a packed floor and about 1/3 of the upper seats filled toward the end of the show. A good, solid set length in my book (slightly above the average even) was the 2 hours they played for.
My preference tended toward the quieter ones, with a good mix of their songs. When Jim picked up an acoustic guitar, I knew it was going to be a good song, hehe. There was a bit of a slump in the middle with a drawn-out song, sparse in lyrics (don't remember the name unfortunately), but other than that, it was quite enjoyable overall.
One thing that also stood out to me was this really interesting synth instrument Jim James played, kind of oval or pear-shaped. One side appeared to be sensitive to touch all along it; you could make specific tones but also just brush your hand along it. Pretty damn cool. I imagine hard-core MMJ fans know all about it, but it was new to me as I'd never seen them live before.
